One morning, a cecropia moth landed on my screen door and decided to spend the whole day there. I love entomology, and this is one of my favorite bugs. It was a male - I could tell by his antennae. I gently touched these soft, feathery plumes - he didn't seem to mind! He let my near-sighted self get close enough to be able to see the scales that made up his velvety wings, and I looked through the clear ones that added impact to his eye-spots!
All during the day, I talked to him as I carefully went in and out of the house. He seemed quite content.
At twilight, I noticed him shifting his feet and flexing his wings, as if he was starting his day. I watched as he became more animated, knowing that he soon would be leaving. I carefully opened the door to see him in his element, no screen between us.
With a final couple of wing pumps, he wafted off the door and hovered close to my face. He then fluttered around it, exploring my hair and brushing my cheeks with those beautiful wings! And after that final kiss, he flew away. Talk about goosebumps...!!!
