"Watching Salmon" was created to commemorate an event I attended in the Pacific Northwest. I wanted to create something unique, so I pulled all my books on Northwest Coast Native American art to inspire me. I had fallen in love with their styles and imagery while taking an anthropology course as a student at the University of Illinois. Seeing these works of art again after so many years transported me back in time and to many different cultures.

Reluctantly, i put the books back in my library. It was time to take my sketchbook and begin scribbling. From the tangle of lines emerged a boat which held a large cat and 3 little ones. Fish appeared in the waves surrounding them. The drawing told me the tale: Mom Cat is taking her kittens out in her boat for the first time and they see salmon in the wild. (YUM!) It is their first lesson on fending for themselves. (As I reflected on this story, I realized that my 2 cats and I were in the same boat, embarking on a similar journey...)

Each print of "Watching Salmon" is a hand signed and numbered giclee reproduction of my original colored pencil drawing. It is limited to an edition of 250, printed on 100% cotton paper with fade resistant inks. The print measures 8" x 10" and has hand-deckled edges. A Certificate of Authenticity is included. Unframed.

The original drawing has been sold.
