2008 was a year filled with trials and tribulations. But there were also triumphs and moments of shear joy! I was able to capture one of those moments in this portrait of our two girls, "Gracie", the Siamese, and her sister "Kukui", a very shy Snowshoe. (That's a pink scar on her nose; it is shaped somewhat like a Christmas tree.)

This drawing celebrates all the little miracles we experience in our lives every day. It has become one of my personal goals to become more aware of them.

One summer morning, I took my sketchbook out to the picnic table and scribbled "gesture drawings" of our cats. Putting three of these scribbles together resulted in one of my most popular images. Only one of our cats actually made it into the picture: "Jesse James (Thief of Hearts)" is the flame-point Siamese.
